BBC blunder: Reporter accidentally interviews Remainer then fails to stop anti-Brexit rant

The BBC reporter was in Bishop Auckland discussing the general election. The area represents a key battleground in this general election as the Labour Party has a majority of just 502 votes. Labour has held Bishop Auckland since 1918 – apart from four years in the 1930s.

The BBC reporter asked the man: “If I can just ask you, what about your fellow farmers, are more of them tempted by the Leave side?”

He replied: “There is the odd one tempted by the Leave side, the ones I know that voted to Leave have either sold up or cut back.

“It’s like a Turkey voting for Christmas, isn’t it.

It’s the epitome of what the human race can do.

“It’s the faith that we will be better off outside of Europe and there is no solid basis for it.

“I have yet to see anybody put a solid argument up for leaving Europe.”

The man continued: “We are far better working together as a community than we are split up.

“On the night of the referendum we went to bed Great Britain and we woke up as Little Britain and that is a tragedy.

“All the things they have put forward, none of them are as good as staying in Europe, all the alternatives they have put forward, none of them are.

“You have got to trade with your local neighbours.

“Donald Trump is wishing to take over the health service.

“Boris Johnson will go to negotiate with Donald as a little boy.”

The Remainer concluded: “Boris Johnson has stuffed the DUP, he went over there he gave empty promises and the day after he sold them.

“The Irish problem he can’t sort it.

“He promised £350million a day, he knew that was a lie.

“He lied to the British public and he is perpetuating this lie now.

“He should be sent to jail. He should be sued.”
