BBC bias: Remainer Adonis accuses BBC of ‘radicalising’ public to vote for Brexit in clash

Lord Andrew Adonis accused the BBC of “radicalising” the British public to support Brexit. The claim made talkRADIO host Julia Hartley-Brewer burst out laughing as she believes the BBC’s Question Time panellists are pro-Remain. The BBC have repeatedly denied any claims they are biased.

Speaking on talkRADIO, Mr Adonis said: “As you know I’ve been a critic of the BBC from the other side.

“It was me that coined the label, Brexit broadcasting corporation, to describe the BBC.

“This is same BBC that had Nigel Farage on Question Time on 35 occasions and acted as a platform and gave massive oxygen to Brexit over the years.

“It’s Question Time audiences I can tell are always chosen to maximise raucous pro-Brexit comments.”

Ms Hartley-Brewer interjected: “As someone who has been on Question Time an awful lot, I would say the complete opposite.

“Most of the times I’ve been on Question Time I’ve been the only person who voted leave out of five panellists despite representing 52 percent of the population.

“That’s a simple matter of fact.”

She went on the add: “The bias is quite clearly on the Remain side.”

Mr Adonis replied: “Nigel has been on 35 times, that’s a fact.”

The host added: “Because he was the only one representing the Eurosceptic vote sometimes.”

It comes as Tory MPs have said the BBC’s decision to air an anti-British Horrible Histories segment should put an end to the licence fee.

The comedian, Nish Kumar, hosted the show, it featuring a sketch labelling Queen Victoria “foreign” and showing her as somewhat shocked to discover sugar, tea and cotton having not originated from England.

Tory MPs were furious at the show, who claimed that it was pumping out “unpatriotic lies”.

Ex-minister David Jones told The Sun: “At a time when the annual compulsory tax payment it receives from viewers is being scrutinised, it’s hard to see why the corporation should be putting out this drivel.”

Fellow Tory backbencher Mark Francois said: “The BBC is heading for a horrible history of its own when we abolish the licence fee.”

The programme currently has more than 1million views on iPlayer.
