Arthur, a Birmingham City fan, was tortured and tragically murdered in the summer 2020 by those tasked to care for him. Following the recent sentencing of his step mother for murder and of his father for manslaughter, tributes have been paid to the six-year-old by a number of local football clubs.

Now a touching mural of Arthur in a City ‘Blues’ top, kicking a football, has been spotted on a wall in the middle of Aston – home of fierce rivals Aston Villa.

Graffiti artist ‘Disney’ has laid claim to the work, which is proving a it with locals despite the fact he is in a City kit.

It comes after rival Midlands clubs came together for a round of applause that was held in the sixth minute of matches taking place over the weekend.

Birmingham City, the club Arthur backed, announced the tribute, writing: “We love you, Arthur Labinjo-Hughes.

“Together with Millwall, we will be remembering Arthur in the sixth minute of tomorrow’s game.”

Aston Villa followed suit, announcing that it would be joining in the applause.

Arthur has been remembered as a football fanatic.

In a video shared by his uncle, Daniel Hughs, Arthur said he dreamed of becoming a professional footballer.

Daniel urged viewers of his treasured video: “Remember him like this please.”

Arthur planned his course through various clubs carefully, saying he wanted to play for Liverpool, then Tottenham and, and England.

Arthur’s step mother, Emma Tustin, who prevented these dreams from becoming realities, was convicted on Friday of abusing, poisoning and murdering the defenceless six-year-old.

For this, she was jailed for ‘life’ with a mimimim term of 29 years – though the sentence is set to be reviewed for leniency.

A woman with whom Tustin shared a cell while awaiting trial said she showed no remorse for her actions and, instead, would spend much of her time laughing and joking on the phone.

She told the Mirror that the only time she saw Tustin upset was after Arthur’s father, Thomas Hughes, ignored her in court.

Thomas was found guilty on Friday of manslaughter and handed a 21-year sentence.

On Sunday, the Government announced that a national investigation will be launched into Arthur’s murder.

Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab told Sky News: “We want to see how social services and the local authorities liaise with the criminal justice agencies and what lessons further we can learn.”
