Arrest after viral video of car missing dog walker and hitting lamppost

A teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after a dramatic collision between a car and a pedestrian.

Footage of the incident, which took place on a quiet residential street in Derby, has been widely shared on social media. It shows a woman out walking a dog when a silver Volkswagen Golf comes around a corner and loses control before crashing into a lamppost, narrowly missing the pedestrian.

The crash took place in Donington Drive, in Sunny Hill, just before 6pm on Monday, May 22, with both the driver and passenger quickly leaving the scene. Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with the incident.

A statement from Derbyshire Police last night (Wednesday May 24) said: “A 39-year-old woman was walking along the pavement with her dog when a Volkswagen Golf struck them and a lamppost. The woman and the dog were left shaken but not seriously injured.

“Earlier this evening, a 16-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody.”
