Armed police called to security alert at St Thomas' Hospital

Part of central London has been evacuated with ‘armed police’ seen close to St Thomas’ hospital in Waterloo.

A witness described how people had been ‘pushed back out to Westminster bridge’.

Lambeth Police said: ‘Police are dealing with a security alert at St Thomas’ Hospital, SE1. We will provide further info when known.’


One witness wrote on Twitter: ‘St Thomas’ hospital with armed police attending. No entry to anyone

‘Now clearing the grounds in front – everyone pushed back out to Westminster bridge.’

Another said: ‘My girlfriend just came out of an appointment there and said she saw ten armed police rushing into it as she was leaving.’

The hospital in central London, close to the Houses of Parliament, is one of the busiest in the country.
