Archie Harrison title: Will royal baby be a prince? What is his full name and last name?
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry keep breaking the mould with the arrival of their baby boy. They flouted tradition and only showed royal baby Archie to the world when they were ready, rather than hours after his birth. And now, they’ve chosen a name that was barely on the radar.
Odds on Archie were 100/1, according to Ladbrokes bookmakers, and Harrison didn’t feature at all.
For the couple who closely guard their privacy, it seems fitting their name would surprise us.
The couple have also chosen a last name for their son, which isn’t always required in royalty: Mountbatten-Windsor.
Will Archie have a title?
By deciding to call their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, Harry and Meghan have chosen not to use a title for their first born, for now at least.
Instead, he will simply be Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.
Harry and Meghan were named the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on their wedding day, and as the firstborn son of a Duke, Archie could have become Earl of Dumbarton – one of Harry’s subsidiary titles – or have been Lord Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.
Down the line, Archie could be given the secondary Sussex title, before inheriting the dukedom, as it is traditional for the eldest son of a duke to eventually inherit his father’s title.
All Royal titles are decided and offered by Queen Elizabeth, though royals do not have to accept them.
The Queen’s daughter, Princess Anne, has two children, Peter and Zara, neither of whom have a title.
They weren’t entitled to a royal status by birth since titles can only be given to a monarch’s grandchildren through sons, not daughters, but the Queen offered one anyway, which Anne declined.
Their father, Captain Mark Phillips, was a commoner and also turned down a title that would have been given to him as a wedding gift from the Queen when he wed Princess Anne.
In 2015, Zara (now Tindall) said: “I’m very lucky that both my parents decided to not use the title and we grew up and did all the things that gave us the opportunity to do.”
All of Prince William’s children have titles, which is customary as he is the future King.
After his birth in 2013, Prince George was officially named His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.
Siblings Charlotte and Louis were named Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge and His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.
