Another 691 people have died with Covid-19 in the UK, as the death toll continues to rise.

The UK confirmed a new daily record of coronavirus cases with 36,804 people testing positive for the virus over the last 24 hours, according to the latest data by the Department of Health.

The last biggest increase was recorded on Sunday with 35,928 new infections recorded.

A total of 222,199 people have tested positive since the start out the outbreak, while 79,349 had coronavirus recorded on their death certificate.

The latest figures come as countries across Europe closed their borders to the UK amid fears over a new, mutant strain of the virus.
