Another 506 people die with Covid as UK records 18,450 new cases
Another 506 people in the UK have died with coronavirus, today’s official figures show, bringing the country’s death toll to 64,908.
Some 18,450 new cases of Covid-19 were also recorded, meaning the total number of confirmed cases in the UK has now reached 1,888,116. Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies and additional data on deaths in recent days, suggest there have now been 81,000 deaths involving the virus in the UK.
Scotland has recorded 24 new deaths and 854 new cases of the virus in the past 24 hours.
That takes the death toll to 4,135 and the total number of positive tests to 107,749.
In Wales, there have been a further 615 cases of coronavirus in Wales, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 102,568.
Public Health Wales reported another nine deaths, taking the country’s total since the start of the pandemic to 2,891.
A further six people with Covid-19 have died in Northern Ireland, bringing the region’s toll to 1,135.
Department of Health figures have also recorded another 486 new cases, as hospitals there come under increasing strain.
