Andrea Leadsom snubs Farage and insists she won’t involve Brexit Party in EU talks

Tory MP Andrea Leadsom explained that she wanted to deliver Brexit as quickly as possible and leave the EU by the end of October. However, she noted that if talks with the EU were to be reopened, despite winning the majority of votes in the European election, the Brexit Party members or leader would not be involved. This comes days after Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage delivered a letter Number 10 Downing Street demanding to be a part of future Brexit talks.

The Tory leader candidate told TalkRadio: “I think one of the problems in the last three years is that we haven’t talked enough to other political parties to get their support.

“So I would be willing to talk to other political parties.

“But of course the Brexit Party has no members of Parliament so their involvement would be less core.

“I wouldn’t have Nigel Farage in my Brexit negotiating team, no I wouldn’t.

“I understand the frustration of people who voted for the Brexit party because the main political parties have failed to deliver Brexit.

“What I want to do is to get on and deliver for them so we are out by the end of October.”

Last week Friday Nigel Farage and the Brexit Party arrived at Downing Street to demand a seat at the EU negotiating table.

The letter, signed by Nigel Farage said: “As you know the Brexit party won the European elections by a very substantial margin.

“We stood on a clear platform with three simple messages, restore trust in democracy, a WTO Brexit, Some of our elected MEPs to play a significant role on the negotiating team from here.

“We now have the most recent, and winning a democratic mandate on Brexit.

“If the first past the post system had been used, we would have a parliamentary majority of over 240 seats.

“The electorate have asked for us to come into the negotiating team and we are ready to do so immediately.

“This is especially the case given the lack of activity and focus, due to the leadership contests.

“We should firstly review the state of no deal preparations and help advance them as required to give confidence to the nation that we will be fully ready.

“I trust you will agree that the country should not suffer the further uncertainty of having to beg for another delay beyond 31 October 2019.”
