‘An embarrassment unfit to lead’ Fury as Corbyn and Labour cronies join anti-Trump demo

The giant, orange inflatable baby Trump blimp that first appeared during his 2018 visit is due to fly over Trafalgar Square during the late morning, with leader of the opposition Mr Corbyn describing it as an “opportunity to stand in solidarity with those he’s attacked in America, around the world and in our own country”. A 16ft talking robot of Mr Trump sitting on a gold toilet is already in Trafalgar Square ahead of the demo. Massive security measures are in place for the US President’s three-day trip, with restrictions place on areas where he will visit, preventing the public from getting too close.

Former Tory Minister Priti Patel commented on Twitter: “Corbyn’s divisive politics of protests & placards is a reminder why he is completely unfit to lead our great nation.

“The President’s #UKStateVisit is a powerful demonstration of the tremendous strength & importance of the US UK #SpecialRelationship.”

Fellow Tory MP Michael Fabricant tweeted: “What a hypocrite!

“Where was #Corbyn when #socialist dictators came to visit #London???”

Members of the public also criticised Mr Corbyn for his decision.

One tweeted: “One of the roles of the Leader of the Opposition is to meet people you might not like and attend events you don’t want to be at. You are an embarrassment.”

Others took to Nick Ferrari’s LBC phone in to blast Mr Corbyn, while Brexit-backing Labour MP Kate Hoey said: “A democratically elected president of our closest ally should be welcomed whether we agree with his views or not.”

Among those taking part in the protests will be environmental activists, anti-racism campaigners and women’s rights protesters.

Police will close the road directly outside Downing Street to protect the president and his family.

In Britain, Trump’s ban on travel to the United States from several primarily Muslim countries, the decision to withdraw the United States from a global deal to combat climate change, and his criticism of British politicians have helped stoke opposition to his presidency.

The state dinner held in the president’s honour was also boycotted by Liberal Democrat leader Vince Cable.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan gave permission for the Trump Baby blimp to fly over London.

Mr Trump lambasted on social media minutes before his flight landed yesterday, calling him a “stone-cold loser” shortly before he arrived in Britain and has in the past accused him of failing to do enough to stop deadly terror attacks in London.

Shadow Foreign Secretary Emily Thornberry claimed Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn’s attendance at a state banquet for the Chinese president was “different” from Mr Trump’s.

She said: “When you have a close friend and they’re going wrong, you are more likely to be adamant with them and clearer with them than someone who has not been as close a friend and someone you are trying to build a relationship up with.”

The Labour MP said Mr Trump needed to be stood up to “like the way you deal with a bully” because “if you bow down in front of them you just get kicked harder”.
