Tributes are pouring in for the late Feargal Quinn, who has been described as a gentleman respected by all.

Business people, politicians and customers alike have been sharing their memories of the Superquinn founder, who has passed away aged 82.

Fianna Fáil leader Micheá Martin said: “His achievements in business and in the Seanad were significant and are well known, but what set him apart was his personal warmth and great integrity.  We have lost a true gentleman with his passing.”

Dragon’s Den star Gavin Duffy said the Quinn family “contributed so much to this country”.

Customers have recalled how he would help with their shopping at the check-out and knew the true meaning of customer service.

While former Superquinn staff praised his kind persona.

Lord Mayor of Cork Des Cahill said: “I started my formal training as a butcher with Superquinn. Feargal was a gentleman to work for and a gentleman to educate and share knowledge.”

Sinn Féin TD Louise O’Reilly said he taught her how to pack bags properly.

“Working in my first job in Superquinn in the early 1990s Feargal Quinn was visiting the store and spotted me making a bags of bag packing. He showed me how to do it right and in a really nice way. I’ve never forgotten how to pack bags properly!”

Mr Quinn was aged 82 and is survived by his wife Denise Quinn, their five children and 19 grandchildren.
