The Monarch will be marking 70 years on the throne next year with celebrations including an extended bank holiday. For the historic milestone, a competition set out to find an emblem that represents the Queen’s reign throughout the years.
Edward Roberts, 19, won the coveted prize with a design that includes nods to Her Majesty’s 1952 Coronation.
Mr Roberts described the moment he received the inspiration for the design as a “eureka moment”.
He said: “I thought if I could create a continuous line that incorporates the key features of St Edward’s crown that would be a really good way of representing the continuing reign of the Queen.”
The design features a purple background with platinum finishes, which were meant as a nod to the Robe of Estate the Queen wore while leaving Westminster Abbey after her Coronation ceremony.
The graphic design student told the Lord Chamberlain: “The crown is a very recognisable figure but I can take a very modern twist on that very classical emblem.
“So I was just thinking of ways I could make the crown a modern twist.
“So I came up with a continuous line drawing.
“And I thought that represented the continuation of the crown as the Monarch.”

Mr Roberts from Southwell in Nottinghamshire said he felt “over the moon” when he found out he had won the competition.
The teenager said: “I am over the moon. I can’t believe it!
“It’s an honour to compete in the competition, and I nowhere near expected to win it, but it’s amazing!”
He added: “Art and Design have always been passions of mine, from a young age.
“Looking forward, I hope to make a career out of them.”
