15 injured after 'substance attack' at Tesco, McDonald's and Pizza Hut
More than a dozen people needed treatment after being doused with a ‘substance’ in the West Midlands last night.
Emergency crews rushed to The Arcade in Upper Gornal, Dudley, shortly before 7.30pm last night after a man allegedly sprayed the unknown substance in Pizza Hut, McDonald’s and Tesco.
So far 15 people have ‘reported discomfort and irritation to breathing’ while ‘one person was taken to hospital suffering palpitations’, West Midlands Fire Service said.
They added that a hazmat risk assessment was later carried out, but the substance has not yet been identified.
Eyewitnesses described on social media seeing ‘numerous fire engines, police and ambulances’ rushing to the scene, Birmingham Live reports.
One said: ‘Hope no-one is injured and everyone is safe by the Tesco in Gornal. Just been past and there are numerous fire engines, police and ambulances. Looks like they have taped it off.’
