'It'll be resolved but it's tight'
Brexit has thrown up all manner of challenges. Where share sales and purchases are settled is just another one of them.
Regina Breheny said that while it shouldn’t be an onerous task to transfer the settlement of shares to Brussels, the time line could be an issue.
“It will be resolved, but it’s tight,” she said, adding that it had taken quite a bit of prodding to get this issue moved up the agenda.
“It is going to be a major issue come March if something doesn’t happen.”
However, she’s optimistic a solution will be implemented.
For Irish shareholders, the behind-the-scenes machinations will most likely go largely unnoticed.
“Most ordinary shareholders probably don’t even realise where their shares are held,” said Ms Breheny.
