Hong Kong will play a lesser role in Greater Bay Area, but is not sidelined by Beijing: Experts

HONG KONG – Hong Kong is not sidelined in Beijing’s plan for the Greater Bay Area, but rather, playing less of a leading role in the development of what is to be a regional economic powerhouse, some analysts believe.

Associate Professor Sing Ming of the Hong Kong University of Technology and Science thinks the city has been downgraded from a dominant economic engine to become “one of a few engines in the Greater Bay Area”, which also includes Macau and Guangdong province.
