Woman who ‘left £4,000 tip using boyfriend’s credit card’ charged with theft

A woman has been charged with theft after she allegedly left a $5,000 (£4,000) tip for a waitress using her boyfriend's credit card.

Serina Wolfe, from New York, was paying for a $55 meal at the Clear Sky Beachside Cafe in Florida on June 27 when she spent the extraordinary sum.

Wolfe was moved to generosity after hearing the waitress had recently put her dog down, ABC News reported .

The 24-year-old was involved in a row with her boyfriend, Michael Crane, and had decided to get back at him, police allege.

Wolfe had earlier asked her boyfriend pay for a flight back to her hometown of Buffalo, New York – a request which he denied.

Crane had placed a hold on the credit card, but removed it before Wolfe made the purchase, according to an affidavit.

He told his credit card company that he thought Wolfe “was drunk or trying to get back at him" after noticing the $5,000 charge on his bill.

Wolfe denied making the payment when she was confronted.

The Clear Sky Beachside Cafe had already paid the tip to the server by the time it was reported as fraudulent, according to an affidavit.

Wolfe is now being held on a $1,000 (£800) bond at Pinellas County Jail and will face charges of grand theft.
