One person dead and two injured after shooting on Las Vegas strip
One person was killed and two others were injured Thursday night after a gunman opened fire in a hotel room on the Las Vegas strip.
Police received reports about a shooting in room at the Mirage Casino and Hotel around 8.30pm, and arrived to find one man dead and two women seriously injured, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Captain Dori Koren said during a news conference.
Authorities believe the suspect shot the three victims during an altercation inside the hotel room. According to police, the victims and suspect all knew each other.
The hotel was immediately put under lockdown following the shooting. Photos and videos of the scene shared to social media showed crowds of people being held near an entrance to the hotel.
‘We can tell you at least preliminarily, that there was an altercation that happened in the room between four individuals we believe all known to each other. And during that altercation, the one individual shot the three other individuals,’ Koren said.
‘These types of incidents, any types of extreme violence that happens in our city, we take very seriously,’ Koren said. ‘We’re confident we will solve this case.’
The suspect was identified, located and arrested all within six hours of the incident, Koren shared on Twitter early Friday morning.
The gunman’s identity has not been made public.
Police said the shooting was an isolated incident, and that there was no threat to the public.
