Melania grins on final morning as first lady amid 'looming divorce' claims

Melania Trump grinned from ear to ear throughout her final morning as first lady, amid claims she plans to file for divorce now she is a private citizen again. The outgoing first lady had a wide smile plastered across her face as she left the White House for the final time on Wednesday morning alongside husband Donald.

The Trump boarded the president’s Marine One helicopter and headed to Joint Base Andrews, where Melania continued to smile while listening to her husband speak.

She gave her own brief, happy-sounding speech where she thanked her followers, before grinning as she boarded Air Force One amid claims she is excited about disappearing into obscurity.

Aides close to the president claim Melania has been waiting for her husband to leave office so she can file for divorce out of the glare of the White House spotlight.

Shortly after President Trump lost the election in November, his former aide Omarosa Manigault Newman said: ‘Melania is counting every minute until he is out of office and she can divorce.

‘If Melania were to try to pull the ultimate humiliation and leave while he’s in office, he would find a way to punish her.’

Omarosa, a former Apprentice contestant, fell out with Trump after joining his White House team, with the president later firing her. She went on to claim Trump would have Melania deported if the first lady filed for divorce.

Slovenian-born Melania is a naturalized US citizen, so it is unclear how Trump would have been able to use his powers to strip her of her American passport.

Melania is said to have sobbed after Trump won the presidential election in 2016, with the couple’s marriage reportedly plunged into crisis in early 2018 after claims Trump had a one night stand with porn star Stormy Daniels re-emerged.

But the first lady – who is the president’s third wife – is said to have exerted such a calming influence over him that she was able to re-negotiate her pre-nup agreement that would see her granted a payout in the event of the couple divorcing.

Melania allegedly engineered the negotiations in return for agreeing to move to Washington DC after Trump won the election.

Other friends insist the Trumps’ marriage is relatively solid, and that the couple do enjoy one another’s company, despite sleeping in separate beds and spending most of their time apart.

The famously private former model is said to be looking forward to returning to her old life of shopping, seeing friends, caring for her 14 year-old son Barron, and spending time with her parents.
