Man in blackface punched after showing up at Black Lives Matter protest
A protestor who turned up at an anti-Trump rally in blackface was punched in the head during chaotic scenes outside the White House.
Black Lives Matter activists and Democratic Party supporters gathered in Washington DC last night as President Trump formally accepted the Republican nomination for the upcoming presidential elections.
In scenes filmed by cameraman Brendan Gutenschwager, the white man in blackface is led away by police as an enraged crowd shout at him to go away.
The man pauses to play on his phone before a protestor emerges from behind the cops and punches him in the face shouting ‘blackface.’
It’s not clear whether the man was attempting to attend the rally or troll the protestors already there. There have been some cases of white, BLM supporters, wearing blackface in a misguided show of support for African Americans.
The footage also shows the chaotic aftermath of the punch, with police chasing the alleged attacker through the crowds before wrestling him to the ground to prevent him from leaving.
President Trump was giving an historic speech in the Rose Garden nearby in which he vowed to further improve life in the United States if he is re-elected as president in November.
Angry crowds chanted and marched through the streets of the city before moving towards the White House. Demonstrators were seen climbing on buses, honking with bullhorns and sounding electric sirens.
They included Black Lives Matter supporters and campaigners for the Democratic nominee Joe Biden.
They voiced anger over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on May 25, the death of Breonna Taylor in Louisville, Kentucky, on March 13 and most recently the case of Jacob Blake, who was shot seven times in the back by a policeman in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on August 23.
The protestors could be heard as the President gave his speech in front of 1,000 invited guests.
They began setting off firecrackers as Trump took to the microphone and set off air horns which were audible from the South Lawn of the White House.
It didn’t seem to distract Trump or his supporters who chanted ‘USA’ and ‘four more years.’
