Seven people have died in a crash between a truck and a group of motorbikes on a rural two-lane road in the US.

Three people were also injured in the collision between the 2016 Dodge 2500 pickup truck and the riders on Route 2 in Randolph, New Hampshire, on Friday evening.

The truck was on fire when emergency crews arrived at the crash site.

Onlookers rushed to help the injured motorists strewn along the road – and described a “devastating” scene.

New Hampshire State Police Captain Chris Vetter said: “It’s tragic for those involved, tragic for the families, so we’re doing our job, we’re doing our work and our thoughts are with the people who were adversely affected by this.”

Parts of the rural two-lane highway were closed after the crash as investigators search for clues about what caused it.

A photo posted by WMUR-TV showed motorbikes and wreckage scattered across the highway and a truck on the shoulder in flames.

One witness, 21-year-old Miranda Thompson, said there was “debris everywhere” and recalled seeing a truck in flames on the side of the highway and six motorbikes.

“People were in the grass,” she said. “There were people putting tourniquets on people, trying to make sure they didn’t move.”

Jerry Hamanne, co-owner of a nearby bed-and-breakfast that was hosting one of the bikers in the group, said he and a doctor went to help.

He said: “It was so devastating to see the bodies on the road. My God, I don’t want to see something like this again.”

The crash happened around 500ft (152.4m) from lodging where most of the motorcyclists were staying, Mr Hamanne said.
