Husband of tragic mum who refused NHS chemo ‘broke’ after £70,000 alternative therapy cost

Katie Britton-Jordan died at the age of 40 last month, leaving behind husband Neil Jordan, 58, and their five-year-old daughter Delilah.

The mum-of-one rejected NHS chemotherapy, calling it a “poison”, and Neil claims she was denied a mastectomy because of her choice.

He told Derbyshire Live: “We were told in no uncertain terms that she needed chemotherapy, radiotherapy and a mastectomy, or she was going to die, and that was the only option.

“We said we wanted to think about our options. We became second-class citizens as soon as we said that.”

Neil said: “She was back in hospital and they said ‘that’s it – there’s nothing more we can do for you’.”

And now, in his first interview since his wife’s death, Neil told the title he now depends on benefits to care both for his elderly dad and young Delilah.

He criticised the NHS for allegedly at first refusing to give Katie a mastectomy unless she complied with the suggested treatment of cancer-shrinking chemo and radiotherapy.

He said: “You can’t put conditions on an operation. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy are both poisons.”

The grieving widower added: “It really bothers me when you see adverts saying ‘we are winning against cancer’.

“We are losing hand over fist.”
