Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin are a pair of total liars
Xi Jinping claims China will be carbon-neutral in 40 years, while Vladimir Putin says his critic Alexei Navalny poisoned himself to near-death with a nerve agent. Lying is now the first resort of both men.
Putin’s lies are more bald-faced: No one’s going to swallow his claim (made in a call to French prez Emmanuel Macron) that his chief domestic critic poisoned himself to make Russia look bad.
Western greens eager to believe in their crusade may swallow Xi’s bull. But his vow to the UN General Assembly last week is meaningless. He said Beijing will beat its Paris Accord target to reach peak emissions by 2030 and become carbon-neutral by 2060. But China remains the world’s top carbon emitter, five years after Paris — and it’s building more coal plants than ever.
Xi has also been saying for years that China is closing the “re-education” camps for ethnic Uighurs in Xinjiang province. Hah! Australian researchers last week showed that the number of internment camps has grown, to 380.
Anyone who believes a word from either Putin or Xi is a complete sap.
