WWE Elimination Chamber verdict as Roman Reigns dominates again

Roman Reigns edged closer to being WWE ’s most unstoppable star ever with another big win at Elimination Chamber.

The Tribal Chief has been WWE Universal Champion for well over 500 days and is already in the midst of one of the strongly booked title runs the company has ever seen.

That continued in Saudi Arabia following Reigns’ decisive victory over the legend Goldberg.

Many had questioned going into the show as to whether the WCW icon would be suitable opposition for Reigns at this stage.

Even at this point in what must be the twilight of the veteran’s career, however, the emphatic nature of the win for the champ – via a Guillotine choke that left Goldberg out cold – was sobering.

Once again Reigns stood dominant in the ring as he now heads to WrestleMania to face Brock Lesnar in what will now be a title vs title match following The Beast’s capturing of the WWE title in Elimination Chamber match.

Quite why Lesnar needed to win January’s Royal Rumble to punch his ticket to WrestleMania when a clash with Reigns was in the making seems a little odd and perhaps wasteful, especially after this result.

You can't help but wonder if there's an alternate WWE title plan with two other stars involved – who will now miss out on a marquee match – that's now in tatters.

There’s no denying it’ll be a titanic clash. The thinking might just be that in having Roman Reigns beat Brock Lesnar – arguably the most dominant WWE performer of his generation – and take hold of both the Universal and WWE titles might just be enough to solidify him as the most dominant performer in history. And it probably would.

  • Legendary midget wrestling brothers' hooker-fuelled drug deaths an unsolved mystery

As lofty as that sounds, it’s hard to think of a title reign for Lesnar, or the likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Triple H, John Cena or Hulk Hogan that really matched the one-sidedness of Reigns' current run with the gold.

It certainly is hard to fathom any other possible outcome at WrestleMania than him winning but, then again, maybe that’s precisely why we should expect exactly that?

Lesnar’s win was similarly comprehensive as he overcame Austin Theory, AJ Styles, Riddle, Seth Rollins and Bobby Lashley to leave the Chamber with WWE title.

  • Wrestling icon Brock Lesnar had crazy demand for Dana White ahead of his UFC debut

Having the former UFC star run through the opposition in this style was necessary to a point if it was to again establish how dominant he is heading into Mania, but you couldn’t help but feel for Lashley.

He was effectively wiped out of the match without getting involved after being left concussed after Seth Rollins powerbombed Austin Theory through his Chamber Pod.

Again, it’s the bigger picture – if it sets up, say, Lashley and Rollins for WrestleMania then fair enough, but so much of the last few weeks has had an on-the-fly feel to it in respect of booking. Why have him defeat Lesnar for that title a few weeks ago?

The less said about the night for stars Riddle, Styles and Theory the better. It’s Mania season, though, so we best embrace the chaos.

  • WWE's Bianca Belair ready for 'special' Elimination Chamber showdown in Saudi Arabia

Among the other big talking points on the night was a win for Bianca Belair in her Elimination Chamber match.

How nice, too, to see Alexa Bliss back in a big-time match in WWE after her recent return. Belair eliminated her last of all after Rhea Ripley, Liv Morgan, Doudrop and Nikki ASH had all been ousted.

The victory means The EST will challenge Becky Lynch for the Raw Women’s Championship at WrestleMania – Lynch having also retained her championship in Saudi Arabia against legend Lita.
