World’s biggest cat amazes zookeeper who gasps ‘look at this thing’
The world's biggest cat, a 900lbs liger called Hercules, has been filmed going for a walk with a stunned zookeeper.
Jay Brewer, who owns The Reptile Zoo, was visiting Myrtle Beach Safari in South Carolina when he was able to get up close and personal with the big cat.
Hercules is the result of a pairing between a lion father and a tiger mother and he's so large he has been in the Guinness Book of Records three times.
In a video he uploaded on Instagram, Jay introduces Hercules and is clearly impressed with the animal's size and majesty.
Walking with Hercules and the animal's keeper Kody Antle, he says: "This is obviously a liger which is one the largest in the world, if not the largest. Is this an incredible animal or what?
"And I just can't understand that people think something that can happen – that does happen naturally – people freak out about it.
"I don't know, maybe they just freak out because it's such an amazing animal! Look at this thing!"
Kody says: "The biggest misconception is that there were never lions outside of Africa but there are currently populations of lions living in Asia, right there in India, interacting with tigers today."
The video was "liked" more than 180,000 times since it was uploaded on August 31 and hundreds of people left comments.
One stunned user said: "It amazes me how big those hybrids are!!! They are huge!"
"Sheesh! Massive is an understatement," gushed someone else.
A third person commented: "Huuuuuge kitty cat! I’m kinda jealous you got to pet it! Cool!"
This comes after Jay's daughter Juliette was filmed in an awkward predicament when a giant alligator she was feeding lunged and escaped from its tank.
And when a python lunged at Jay's face he only just got out the way in time, as shown in another hair-raising video.
