A woman who won an incredible sum in the lottery said it's caused her to keep having the same nightmare.

Esther Mboneye, her partner Aristide Nininahazwe and three-year-old daughter Tiffany had their lives turned upside down when they won a house worth $3million AUD (£1.5million) and $1million (around £600,000) in cash, amounting to $4million in winnings in a lottery in Australia.

The win marked a huge life change for the couple, who had managed to escape war and refugee camps in Africa before scooping up the win.

The pair sobbed with glee when they were given the keys to their new four-bed home in Adelaide, and the day they moved in they welcomed their second child, Cairo.

Although Mboneye is overjoyed and feels "privileged" to have won, she said she has been having recurring nightmares ever since.

She told Daily Mail Australia: "Every time I would go to sleep I kept on having nightmares… like someone was going to come and knock on the door and say they made a mistake.

"We feel very privileged and lucky to be in this position, because not everybody gets this chance, so it is very overwhelming.

"It's everyone's dream. It's a dream come true."

Nininahazwe added that the recent win has changed the course of the family's lives, saying it was "wonderful and scary at the same time".

The pair plan to use their winnings to create a better work-life balance, having both worked two or three jobs at a time prior to the win.

They both plan to keep on working, but hope the jackpot win will mean they can spend more time as a family.

Mboneye added: "We just want to set ourselves up for the future.

"At times we both did two or three jobs at a time and were barely home to spend time together.

"Kids our days grow up so fast. I think just to build memories while they are young and getting that opportunity is actually amazing.

"So it’s really good to be able to step on the brakes."

The couple never expected to win the jackpot when they bought one of 200,000 tickets sold in the Hospital Research Foundation Group Home Lottery, 7News reports.

As healthcare workers, the pair say they only bought a ticket to support medical research, and had no idea that decision would transform their lives.
