Woman who ‘hating being mum’ left bleach out hoping son, 3, would drink it

A mum dropped a straw into a bottle of bleach in the hope her three-year-old son would drink it, a court has heard.

The woman in her 20s, who has not been named to protect the boy's identity, left her toddler in the worse condition social workers had ever seen.

Authorities counted up to 80 bruises covering the young boy's head and body, which the evil mum first tried to blame on her boyfriend.

Leeds Crown Court heard the woman admit to not feeding her son properly and said she "hated being a mother", The Sun reports.

Her twisted campaign of abuse only came to an end when her horrified boyfriend's mother contacted social services while the toddler was at her house.

Police were told how the mum deliberately created opportunities for her son to harm himself, which included leaving out the bleach and opening a window he could climb out of.

The mum from Leeds, West Yorkshire, admitted two counts of child cruelty but escaped prison with a two-year suspended sentence.

Her son however has been moved to a "secure safe environment" where he is recovering from extensive bruising on his arms, legs, and head, as well as bleeding to his retina.

The court heard social workers "had never seen anything so bad".

Craig Sutcliffe, mitigating, said his client was ashamed of herself and has been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.

Judge Penelope Belcher said it wasn't "in the public interest" for the woman to be jailed – and instead imposed an order that will see her get support from professionals.

The judge warned that if the woman has another child, it is likely the baby would be removed from her care.
