Woman reveals ‘little tradition’ she has with son to help her be a better mum

A woman has revealed a special tradition that she says helps her be a better mum to her two young children.

Erinne Dragosetti was a single mum when her son was born, and she promised to do everything she could to show him what a proper relationship was like.

For her, that meant going on a date with her boy and spending one-on-one time together where they made an effort to catch up and talk.

Erinne, from Australia said: "I was a single mum and knew that it would just be him and I during the newborn and baby days of his life  and I wanted to provide everything I could for him.

"I was lucky enough to meet my partner, now husband, when my son was just a year and a half old, but the tradition has stuck.

"However, being just him and I for that short time taught me that my darling son and I still needed our time together, where he gets mummy all to himself."

She explained that the date nights she shares with her boy are not always the same, sometimes they would be a spur of the moment event, while others were much more thought out.

She continued: "Sometimes it could be spontaneous, after a tough week at school I might come home and surprise him with the news that it’s date night.

"Other times it could be planned weeks in advance and I give him the full responsibility of coming up with a date and booking it – with my help.

"It’s a time to really check in on each other and nurse our relationship."

Erinne added that she feels the pressure like most parents and says she is not always a great mum, getting angry at the small stuff.

"I have meltdowns, I get angry over the small stuff, I don’t volunteer at his school and rarely attend an assembly," she said.

"I’m a real mum, one doing the juggle, whether it’s juggling a new baby with a seven-year-old, or juggling full-time work with two kids.

"So this is one thing I do to ensure that even if I can’t be there 100 percent of the time, he still knows that I’ll always be there, ready for our next date."
