A woman was mauled to death by pit bulls after trying to break up a dog fight.
Rhoda Wagner had been helping to care for three pit bull terriers that belonged to her roommate for more than a month.
However, last week Pennsylvania State Police found the 60-year-old dead in her front yard, while the dogs were "running loose around her".
"We are actually under the impression the two dogs got into a fight and she was trying to break them up," said Wagner's friend Carla Snow.
"I just want the whole world to know what she was and who she was, I just want everybody to know that she was a really, really heartfelt, special person."
The dogs' owner reportedly consented for his pets to be euthanised at the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area. A fourth dog who was found by police inside Wagner's home has been rehomed by the owner's son.
However, Snow described Wagner as an "animal lover" who wouldn't want to see the reputation of pit bulls be "brought down any more than they already are".
She added: "She loves her dogs. She was always sending us pictures of her dogs, taking a nap with her or babying her when she's sick."

An online fundraiser page helping to raise money for Wagner's funeral has already received more than $1,600 in donations at the time of writing.
Created by Candee Meyer, the Go Fund Me Page reads: "A really great person has passed away unexpectedly. She doesn't have insurance.
"Join us in seeing that she gets the proper services that she deserves. Thank you."
Lourdes Torres, who donated $25 to the fundraiser, commented: "As an animal lover my heart breaks when this happens.
"In deed, she must have been a beautiful person! That picture stole my tears. God bless her soul and comfort her friends and family."
According to FindAnyAnswer, pit bulls are the most commonly banned dog breed in the US, due to sometimes being "considered predisposed to aggressive and dangerous behaviour".
Many state bans on pit bulls follow attacks on humans that have resulted in serious injury and death.
