Woman dumped for Ukrainian refugee she ‘saw red flags in’ says ex has apologised

A British man has apologised to his ex partner after running off with the Ukrainian refugee they had opened up their home to.

Tony, a 30 year old security guard, who has two daughters with Lorna Garnett, moved out with Sofiia Karkadym in May this year just 10 days after the Ukrainian moved into live with him and his partner of almost 10 years at their home in Bradford.

However, he then ended his four-month relationship with her after she allegedly used a knife to stab the wall of a newly rented home in Bradford.

Following the outburst, she was arrested by police who told her not to return to the property.

Sofiia than allegedly went to her previous dwellings in Bradford, kicking the door in anger and shouting "Tony I love you!".

Police were called once again but she ran away by jumping over a wall before being spotted hiding under a nearby hedge.

She was once again arrested but later released without charge.

Despite the lovers' break-up, Tony's former partner says there is no way back for him, telling Mail Online: "I do love him, I respect him, he is the father of our beautiful daughters. But there is too much water under the bridge now.

'We will always be friends and the best parents we can be to our girls, but I'll be happy for him if he had a proper new relationship and I'm sure he'll be happy if that happens for me.

"Right now I am trying to recover from this whole thing and understand how I let this woman into my house."

Lorna said it had been a torrid time and that she was recently proscribed anti-depressants because of her ordeal.

"This has affected my mental health. As soon as the kids were in bed and asleep, I just sat here and cried and cried," she said.

"I had been strong for the kids until they were asleep and then I'd break down and it's been like that every night."

Lorna said she had a great first impression of the refugee, who jumped out the car upon seeing Lorna and giving her a big hug. But things quickly took a turn and Lorna noticed some strange behaviour and "red flags".

She would neaten herself up before Tony would arrive home from work and then began being "flirty" and then in the daytime when he wasn't around she ignored Lorna completely.

Then, just a few days after Sofiia's arrival, she insisted on accompanying Tony on a visit to his parents house and staying there with him.

On the first night, he stayed in his parents' caravan round the front of the house, but the next day he shared a bed with her and they slept together.

Lorna then chucked him out of the house.

To make things worse, the parents at Lorna's kids' school began gossiping about her saga.

"They would say things like, 'Look it's her whose man has gone off with so-and-so'".

Sofiia told MailOnline she is still in love with Tony.

"I am lost. I am heartbroken and I still have feelings for Tony," she said.

Tony said he will never be speaking to Sofiia again.

"I'm sorry about everything that's gone on, she didn't ask for this. I still respect her and have a degree of love for her," he said.
