Winnipeggers stepping on a plane Wednesday are advised to double check their flight is on time before heading to the airport.

Heavy snow and freezing rain happening in both eastern and western provinces means flights are being delayed and cancelled to and from various destinations.

Environment Canada Senior Climatologist Dave Phillips said while Winnipeg’s winter weather is known for being nasty, that wasn’t the case on Wednesday.

“We have about 153 regions out there across the country that have extreme cold, snowfall, blowing snow, winter snow warnings, winds — and it’s blank there in Manitoba,” Phillips said.

Winnipeg flights between Montreal and Ottawa were cancelled Wednesday morning as both cities saw snow and limited visibility.

Toronto was a mixed bag with some planes running on time and others being delayed or cancelled altogether.

In the west, flights from Vancouver were running behind as the coastal city received a rare dump of snow.
