She divorced her first husband, film producer Sir Anthony Havelock-Allan in 1952 and married Brigadier John Profumo two years later.

Her last starring role was in the original London production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical play The King and I on Drury Lane.

She and Havelock-Allan had two children together, Simon, who was born with Downs Syndrome and Mark.

With her second husband, John, she had David, who went on to be an author.
