Who is Judge Brenda Penny?

BRENDA Penny is the judge presiding over Britney Spears’ conservatorship case.

The judge denied the pop star’s request to remove her father Jamie Spears from her conservatorship, for now.

Who is Judge Brenda Penny?

Judge Brenda Penny is overseeing Britney Spears’ controversial conservatorship case in a Los Angeles court.

She was appointed to the bench in 2018 by former Governor Jerry Brown.

Her current term ends on January 4, 2027.

Penny is a graduate of the University of Southern California and the University of West Los Angeles School of Law.

She began her legal career in 1982 as an associate at the law firm Gronemeier & Barker and became a partner seven years later.

Penny practiced law solo in 1994 and three years later became a probate attorney for the Los Angeles County Superior Court, according to a biography of Trellis, a legal database.

She was elected by the superior court judges to serve as court commissioner in 2014.

Penny served as commissioner for four years, until she was appointed to the bench.

The judge won re-election by default in March 2020 as she was the only candidate due to the cancellation of the primary and general elections.

What did Judge Brenda Penny tell Britney Spears?

Penny acknowledged Spears’ testimony to the court on the day of her conservatorship hearing on June 23, 2021.

The judge said: “Ms. Spears, you're quite welcome.

"And also, I just want to tell you that I certainly am sensitive to everything that you said and how you're feeling and I know that it took a lot of courage for you to say everything you have to say today.

Adding: “And I want to let you know that the court does appreciate your coming on the line and sharing how you're feeling."

Penny also explained to Spears that the conservatorship could not be removed until a petition to terminate it is submitted to the court.

Spears claimed she was not aware of the process.

Her lawyers are expected to file the petition, though it is unclear when that will be.

The singer will then have another hearing with Penny once the paperwork is complete to determine the fate of the conservatorship.
