Perez was arrested in 2010 on 28 charges including fraud, first-degree murder and rape, after relocating to Tennessee.

He was tracked down after he changed his name again to Joe Venegas, and committed fraud by trying to open a back account using his false name.

In February 2015, aged 55, he was convicted on all counts.

He was made ineligible for parole for 80 years, and is reportedly being held at Lansing Correctional Facility in Kansas.

Where was Angel's Landing based and does the site still exist today?

The Angel’s Landing commune is a house on a 20-acre plot of land in a rural area north of Wichita, Kansas.

It is still standing, despite the notoriety surrounding the property.

The group travelled over many states before finally settling there.

Why is Angel's Landing so infamous?

Angel's Landing was the subject of an episode of Dateline in 2015, titled Angels And Demons.

Perez was convicted of killing some of his followers in order to receive their life insurance payouts.

The deaths were initially ruled as accidental, but former followers came forward to police at a later date.

As well as this, victims came forward with stories of Perez sexually abusing them – including while they were children.
