Who is British mum Laleh Sharavesh facing jail in Dubai, what did she post on Facebook and why was she arrested?

A BRITISH mum faces jail time in Dubai for calling her ex-husband an "idiot" and his new wife a horse.

But who is she and why was she arrested?

What happened?

Laleh Shahravesh, 55, from Surrey, faces up to two years in jail after she was detained along with her daughter Paris, 14, when they arrived in the UAE last month for her ex’s funeral.

The Brit, who works in a homeless shelter, learned that her former husband’s new wife, 42, had reported her social media posts to the police in 2016.

A shocked Laleh was detained and her passport confiscated under Dubai’s strict cyber crime laws after travelling there for her ex-husband's funeral.

She has now been banned from the leaving the UAE while Paris was allowed to return home to Richmond upon Thames, West London.

The single mum is scheduled to appear in court on April 11 and faces up to two years in jail and a fine of £50,000.

She faces jail after calling her ex-husband's new wife a "horse" on Facebook has described her hopes that the charges could be dropped.

Last night Laleh exclusively told The Sun: "I’ve been made aware of the possibility of the allegation being dropped.

"I feel helpless not being able to comfort my daughter. No young girl should ever have to experience the trauma that Paris has.

"Losing her father and then going through the possibility of not seeing her mother for two years, it’s too much.

"I just look forward to holding her again and hope this ordeal can come to an end."

And Detained in Dubai CEO Radha Stirling, who is assisting Laleh, said today: "We have seen reports stating that complainant, Ms Hammadi, is considering withdrawing her case against Laleh out of respect for her late husband’s love for his daughter Paris.
