White House officials told to prepare for transition should Trump lose to Joe Biden – The Sun

WHITE House officials were instructed to prepare for a transition if Donald Trump were to lose to Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election.

Russell Vought, acting director of the White House's Office of Management and Budget, issued a memorandum providing guidance on Presidential transition activities.

The memo, released Monday, directed executive departments and agencies to appoint a transition director by Friday, in agreement with the Presidential Transition Act of 1963.

Dozens of agencies listed must provide Presidential Transition Communication Point of Contact Information.

Vought wrote in the 17-page memo: "The Presidential Transition Act promotes the orderly transfer of Executive powers in connection with the expiration of the term of office of a President and the inauguration of a new President.
"The activities required by the Act are also helpful to prepare for leadership transitions that occur between the first and second terms of Administrations."

The council's responsibilities include securing an "integrate strategy for addressing interagency challenges and responsibilities" around transitions, coordinating transition activities, providing guidance to agencies and making sure those materials are prepared by November 1 of the Presidential election year.

An Agency Transition Directors Council meeting is has been set for May 27.

The news comes as Hillary Clinton is expected to endorse Joe Biden for presidency on Tuesday.

A source familiar with the plans told CNN Ms Clinton would bring support of the Democratic standard bearer from four years ago behind the former vice president and current presumptive nominee.

She is expected to announce her endorsement for Mr Biden on Tuesday afternoon, where she is confirmed to be a "special guest" at a Biden virtual town hall.

Joe Biden is the latest party leader to try to make the case for returning the White House to Democratic hands in November.

Last Friday, Biden has said Trump will try to postpone the presidential election and has already taken steps to undermine it.

"Mark my words I think he is gonna try to kick back the election somehow, come up with some rationale why it can’t be held," Biden reportedly said during a virtual fundraiser.

The former vice president said he wants Congress to provide alternatives to in-person voting, so the public can safely cast their ballots come November.

Meanwhile, Biden's mishaps have been widely covered by the media.

Just last week, he confused the dates of public holidays during a short interview on CBSN Pittsburgh.
