MICHAEL JACKSON is one the highest selling artists of all time, and has inspired legions of people to try – and mostly fail – his trademark 'moonwalk'.

But MJ also had a passion for animals and even had his own zoo. Here's all you need to know.

What was Michael Jackson's zoo called?

The King of Pop's collection of various creatures was extensive.

His zoo was located on his sprawling property in California.

The estate, dubbed Neverland Ranch, covered around 2,700 acres and had a number of outlandish features.

This included had a train (with a station), its own movie theatre, fair ground rides and Jackson's zoo.

Where was Michael Jackson's zoo?

Michael Jackson had huge success as both a member of The Jackson 5 and huge success as a solo performer.

In 1988 he bought the Santa Barbara County ranch for around $19.5 million which he turned into his own personal amusement park.

Following Jackson's death, it was bought for £22million by billionaire Ron Burkle in 2020, after being listed for an amount almost four times that.

Jackson sold it to Colony Capital for $22.5million in 2009.

His estate co-owned the property “with a fund managed by Colony Capital, a real-estate investment trust”, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The Beat It singer defaulted on a loan backed by Neverland and the trust “bought the note in 2008, putting the property’s title into a joint venture it formed with the pop star.”

Jackson is alleged to have abused children on the property.

Jackson, who died aged 50 in 2009, strongly denied allegations of sex abuse made against him.

It also had a zoo in which animals belonging to Jackson were housed.

What animals did Michael Jackson have at his Neverland zoo?

Former Eastenders star Ross Kemp made an ITV documentary called Searching for Michael Jackson's Zoo about what happened to the animals on Jackson's estate.

The former Eastenders star wrote in The Sun about his experience of shooting the programme, in which he investigates their current whereabouts.

He said: "Everyone remembers Bubbles the chimpanzee who was brought to Press conferences and featured in the Thriller star’s music videos.

"But there were well over a hundred more Jackson animals at any given time — lions, tigers, bears, reptiles. He had them all."

He went on to say: "Very little is known about the animals’ whereabouts since 2005 and I was curious to discover what happened to the most famous private collection in the world.

"It is very likely some of his pets are still alive."
