BRETT Favre, a Hall of Fame quarterback, has waded into the Derek Chauvin guilty verdict claiming the lawman didn’t mean to kill George Floyd, but slammed him for his “uncalled for” actions.

Favre, who once played for the Minneapolis Vikings, spoke about Chauvin’s conviction on his “Bolling With Favre” podcast, just days after the ex-cop was found guilty of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in relation to George Floyd’s death.

 What did Brett Favre say about Derek Chauvin? 

Favre waded into the Derek Chauvin guilty verdict claiming the lawman didn’t mean to kill George Floyd, but slammed him for his “uncalled for” actions.

On Tuesday, after 10 hours of deliberation, a Minneapolis jury convicted Chauvin on all three counts of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter,  following the fatal attempted arrest of Floyd, 46, outside a corner store back on May 25, 2020. 

The 45-year-old former officer could be sentenced to as many as 75 years in prison.

On Wednesday 21 April, the gridiron great spoke about Chauvin’s conviction on his “Bolling With Favre” podcast, TMZ reported.

He denounced Chauvin’s conduct, but stressed that he found it “hard to believe” the veteran cops “intentionally meant to kill George Floyd. 

"I find it hard to believe — and I'm not defending Derek Chauvin in any way — I find it hard to believe, first of all, that he intentionally meant to kill George Floyd," Favre said on the podcast. 

Favre then verbally hammered the white cop’s knee to Floyd’s neck while he laid on the asphalt for several minutes, suggesting the man was not resisting. 

"That being said, his actions were uncalled for,” Favre, who once played quarterback for the Minneapolis Vikings, said.

“I don't care what color the person is on the street. You do not … I don't know what led to that video that we saw where his knee is on his neck, but the man had thrown in the towel."

"It was just uncalled for."

Favre wants to see more coming together in the wake of the verdict and stressed that he wasn’t being prejudiced. 

"I just gave my opinion. I'm certainly not a racist, despite what people think. I'm for unity. I just feel like there's a better way to unify our country."

What has been the response to Brett Favre's comments? 

Favre’s comments have sparked strong backlash from other players.

Former Pro Bowl wide receiver Steve Smith addressed Favre’s comments with an Instagram post, Yahoo News reported.

The post slammed Favre’s trade on the subject, saying: “I have so much respect for the career you had. HOF, awards, etc. … However on this subject, yo Mr. Favre STFU respectfully real talk! Privilege ass!"

And another former NFL wide receiver, Torrey Smith, said he didn’t believe Favre should be asked about any other topics other than playing quarterback.
