We were charged £200 for cancelling a family pub lunch at the last minute – but we had a medical emergency | The Sun
A COUPLE were charged £200 for cancelling a family pub lunch at the last minute – but they had to rush to a medical emergency.
Jamie Kitching, 38, and his wife Amy, 33, booked a meal at The Black Horse in Little Weighton, Yorkshire, for her birthday.
The table, which was for eight people, was confirmed for a Sunday last month.
However, on the morning of, Amy received devastating news a closer family member, who was meant to be at the meal, had collapsed on the kitchen floor.
He was rushed to hospital where medics discovered he'd fractured his skill and had a bleed on the brain.
Jamie said he contacted the pub hours before their 12pm slot and explained the situation – but they were "heartless".

Claiming "unnecessary stress" was added to the situation, Jamie slammed the pub for its "disgusting customer service".
The Black Horse's manager, Micaela Clegg, said they take card details to secure themselves against late cancellations.
She claimed the food had been prepared and staff were booked to cater the large party.
In an email back to Jamie, she said the charge would only be cancelled if they could find a group for the table.
Unfortunately for the family, this wasn't possible and they were notified the hefty amount had left their account.
Micaela said: "If this were theatre or concert tickets would anyone expect a refund under these circumstances and should restauranteurs be restricted from running their business as 'businesses' for fear of this sort of reprisal?"
Jamie said they had confirmed the table on the Saturday and hadn't pre-ordered any meals.
