We live in the UK's 'SMELLIEST' town – people say we're mad to live here but we love it | The Sun
RESIDENTS of the UK's 'smelliest' town have revealed why they love living there.
Locals of Stoke Bardolph, Nottinghamshire, say that people call them made for living in the small rural village, but that they wouldn't dream of leaving.
Many people are put off by the stench from the local sewage treatment plant, but the people who make the area their home claim that they don't even notice it anymore.
Chris Rickett, 71, who has lived in the village for 30 years, told Nottinghamshire Live: "I'm used to it…It's not a big deal, we don't have any problems with it.
"We used to get smells from it at one time but they have altered the plant and we very rarely have any problems with it nowadays."
Likewise, local estate agent Natalie Knowles, 37, who has lived in the area all her life, said: "We don't tend to be affected by smells or anything.

"I don't tend to look that way as our bedroom is on the other side of the house. It doesn't really affect us because we have nothing behind us but open fields and the river."
She added that unpleasant smells drift over from the plant "on occasion" but claimed that this is not "a regular thing".
Sales worker Michael Terry, 54, agreed that the smells didn't affect the local much.
He explained: "We bought the house knowing the view was there and knowing that there would occasionally be a smell from both of those factories.

They claimed that they are sickened by the stench, which can be smelt up to a mile away.
Frederick Todd, 74, complained: "If you’re blind you would be able to find your way to Netherfield just by the smell.

It comes after residents of a town also claiming to be the country's smelliest told The Sun Online that the horrendous stench from a nearby landfill site is so bad they often can't even sit in their gardens.
Meanwhile, the people of a Cumbrian village complained that it has been ruined by the awful smell left by disgusting sewage spills.
