Footage purports to show Russian military vehicles on the move

Hundreds of tanks, armoured vehicles, trucks and what appears to be a missile vehicle feature in dozens of videos uploaded to social media channels claiming to be from Russian border towns near eastern Ukraine. Armed troops and even trains carrying scores of military hardware also feature prominently in clips from TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat.

Chilling clips from Russian citizens claim to show a range of scenes showcasing the sheer scale of the Russian military operation at Ukraine’s border.

Other clips purportedly show tanks gathered in the middle of snow covered town centres, with troops visible in the streets.

While in one clip a driver and a pal travel down a road filming dozens upon dozens of trucks lined up at the side of a highway.

While unverified, the clips offer a concerning insight into what could be happening in Russia as the world stands on the brink of war.

It comes as observers now believe as many as 200,000 Russian troops could be lined up along Ukraine’s border with Russia and Belarus.

On Friday, the Foreign Office urged Britons living in Ukraine to immediately get out of the country by commercial means while they still can, amid fears of an imminent invasion.

This came despite attempts by Defence Secretary Ben Wallace to call for calm as he said Russia’s Defence Minister, Sergei Shoigu, had assured him Russia have no plans to invade Ukraine.

But this claim was thrown into doubt after Mr Shoigu slammed Mr Wallace for the UK’s deliveries of lethal arms and military trainers to Ukraine, which Wallace claimed were purely for defensive purposes in the case of a potential invasion.

Mr Shoigu also added his distrust of Britain saying cooperation was “close to zero” after he demanded a reason as to why the British Government had supposedly sent UK Special Forces into to Ukraine, an unverified claim.

Following the crunch talks, Mr Wallace said “Shoigu is a professional and very experienced minister” adding that talks were “frank and constructive”.

He added “when they say they aren’t going to invade Ukraine we take it seriously” though he noted “but look at the actions that accompany it” as he drew on the enormous build up of troops.

It comes as joint military exercises have also been taking place between Russian and Belarusian forces, these started on February 10, with more planned on February 20.

In a sobering assessment, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson: “We stand on the edge of a precipice and things are as dangerous as I have seen them in Europe for a very, very long time.

“The lesson of the last 100 years is that when Poland is threatened with instability, or aggression on the borders of Poland, then we are all threatened and we’re all affected.”

US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin are set to hold crunch talks at 11am US time on Saturday – 4pm UK time – while top US General Mark Milley has spoken with his Russian counterpart, General Valery Gerasimo.

While armed forces minister James Heappey said all British troops helping with training in Ukraine forces to use anti-tank missiles will be leaving the country this weekend.

He told the BBC: “There will be no British troops in Ukraine if there is to be a conflict there.”
