Was it a ghost? CCTV shows ‘bolted’ garden gate open by itself

Someone on ‘the other side’? CCTV shows ‘bolted’ garden gate open by itself and ghostly orb fly off… and mother thinks it’s a message from her dead father-in-law

  • Anya Clark, 37, from Pulborough, West Sussex, ‘can’t dispute’ night-time footage
  • ‘Latched’ gate mysteriously opens while all else seems calm in the garden
  • Ms Clark thinks it could be linked to her husband Phil’s father, Mark Damario, who died in September 2018
  • Could the deceased be trying to make his presence known since his funeral?

A shocked mother believes CCTV caught the moment the ghost of her late father-in-law could have visited her family home – as their ‘bolted’ garden gate suddenly opens on its own.

Anya Clark, 37, from Pulborough, West Sussex, claims she ‘can’t dispute’ the footage that appears to show the gate creep open – and an ‘orb’ fly across the lawn moments later.

The video, which was recorded shortly after 8pm on January 27, shows the empty garden in a state of calm – until the gate appears to unlatch itself and swing open.

Not an open and shut case: Anya Clark, 37, from Pulborough, West Sussex, claims she ‘can’t dispute’ the footage that appears to show her garden gate creep open as if a spectre has opened it – and an ‘orb’ fly across the lawn moments later. She is pictured with her husband, Phil Damario

Ms Clark believes that less than a second later, the CCTV shows an orb shoot off from the lawn near a sundial.

The mother-of-three and her husband Phil Damario, 37, reviewed the footage when they noticed the gate was open and were ‘creeped out’.

However, the family believe the strange event could be linked to Phil’s father, Mark Damario, who died in September 2018 – and think he could have been trying to make his presence known since the morning of his funeral.

Gateway to another dimension? The CCTV, which was recorded shortly after 8pm on January 27, shows the empty garden – initially in a state of calm

How extar-orbinary: The gate then appears to unlatch itself and steadily open. Seconds later, an ‘orb’ shot off into the sky from the lawn, next to the sundial, according to Ms Clark

Ms Clark said: ‘It’s very odd. Everybody who has seen it, and even friends of mine who are really sceptical, are convinced by it.

‘Our neighbour quite often opens the gate at the side of the house to borrow the wheelbarrow. We got home in the evening and we saw the gate was open. Neither of us had been out and we wondered if the neighbour had forgotten to close the gate.

‘So we reviewed the CCTV and there it was. It was like – wow.  The gate opened.

‘You have to lift it up with your foot to lock it, and if it isn’t bolted tight it just swings right open straight away. It can’t be pulled to and just left because it won’t stay closed, so that’s how I know it would be locked.

‘We were a little bit creeped out when we saw it. We’ve never had anything like that before. We’ve lived here for almost three years and had nothing [like this in that time].

‘The garden was so still – you can see the plants and there’s nothing [moving]. It’s just the way it suddenly opens. The gate was bolted. It was definitely 110 per cent bolted. It’s a really stiff bolt.

Hello from the other side? The family believe the strange event could be linked to Phil’s father, Mark Damario (pictured), who died in September 2018 – and think he could have been trying to make his presence known since the morning of his funeral

‘I don’t know if I believe in ghosts. I suppose I am a little bit of a sceptic, but this has made me wonder.’

The gate was the latest in a line of unexplained occurrences in their house – including the TV remote moving from the bed to the other side of the room as Ms Clark bent down to pick something up on the morning of her father-in-law’s funeral.

Ms Clark claims her daughter had also been spooked when the programme from the funeral kept moving from her bedside table.

She showed the footage to friends, psychics and the previous owner of her house – and all believe that supernatural activity opened the gate.

Ms Clark, who is a stay-at-home mother, said: ‘Most people go – ah yeah, whatever. But a lot of people have gone, you know what? That’s a really cool video. It’s shocked us.

‘I showed it to a couple of psychics. Someone said it looks like there was an orb on the grass and she 100% thinks it’s genuine. Lots of people have pointed it out without me saying anything and I only noticed it when someone showed me.

Not your common or garden ghost: The mother-of-three and her husband Phil Damario (above, with his children, and the gate), 37, reviewed the footage when they noticed the gate was open and were ‘creeped out’

‘The lady who lived here before saw the video and said it sent chills down her spine. I asked her if anything like that happened when she lived here. She said no. She knows that gate, and she said there was no physical way it would do that.

‘There’s no history of ghostly activity in our house. Since we lost my father-in-law there have been a couple of little bits and bobs that have made us think he is making his presence known. I’m just wondering if he’s messing with us or something.

‘On the morning of the funeral, I put the Sky remote next to me on the bed and I was doing my makeup.

‘I dropped my mascara on the floor and I leant over, and sat back up on the bed. I noticed the remote control was gone. It had been moved to the other side of the room. ‘I thought, “OK”. I told my mother-in-law and she said, “That’s a bit strange”.

‘My daughter put the funeral programme on her bedside table and she kept asking me, “Are you moving it? Are you moving Grandad’s picture?”.

‘I told her I wasn’t. She keeps saying it has been moved all the time, so it could be completely unrelated.’

Despite the unexplained events in their household, Ms Clark claims they take comfort that it could be Mark.

She said: ‘Who knows if it’s his dad. It is just these coincidences really that since he passed these things have happened.

‘Even when he was around, he used to love the garden. He used to go out there and talk to my partner about what he had been up to and be having a chat about what he would be doing in the garden next.

‘It’s a nice thought that it could be him.’
