Zoey was killed on the second time she was allowed to spend time with her dad following his split from her mum Cherone Coleman.

Pereira was known to have a history of violence, and had called his ex’s cousins threatening to harm his daughter.

According to sources, he was arrested once for criminal contempt and twice for aggravated harassment against a different woman in 2013.

Zoey’s parents had been embroiled in a bitter custody battle over the child over recent weeks, with Coleman’s sister claiming he had started to “act crazy” since the couple ended their engagement.

Speaking to New York Daily News, Coleman said she always thought “he was going to hurt me”.

She said: “I never thought he was going to hurt my daughter.

“My daughter was perfect. She was loving, always smiling, and oh so caring.

“She was my only child, and I can’t have any more.”

Zoey’s aunt said: “He killed a baby. He burned her alive.

“He did that to her. That’s not even human, that’s an animal.

“That’s a coward.”

According to a police office, Pereira will most likely be charged with murder.
