Vegan activist denies killing hundreds of rabbits during rescue mission

La Vanguardia said the offspring, an estimated 90 bunnies, had to be euthanised after being abandoned, and the mummy bunnies left behind were reportedly forced to have abortions.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star Online, Mia branded the claims as "false information", saying that the group were only inside the farm for "less than five minutes".

She said: "We did not leave any babies without their mothers as we only rescued young ones. We had a professional vet on site with us the whole time.

"I would like to see the official documentation, vet report and post mortem of any of these claims since I strongly believe that if any of the mothers were forced to have abortions then it was definitely due to the horrific conditions they were already living in when we arrived, that thanks to us, have now been exposed.

"We have videos of a bunch of dead rabbits left to rot inside the farm and in the bin outside, who were already there when we got there.

"It’s clearly convenient for them to blame on us a crime that was already committed before we even arrived. This industry has deceived the public for far too long, I will not tolerate any more lies from them."

Mia, who has reported the incident to police, also claims that the farmer's vehicle "pulled up alongside the group's car after chasing them on a motorway for about an hour" and "fired into it with a shotgun", causing glass to shatter in her face.

She added the rabbits are "all doing fine now", despite being "very sick when rescued due to the filthy living conditions on the farm".

Mia, who does not want to give her real name because she has received rape threats online, described in the video how the farmer was "extremely aggressive" and resorted to "strangling activists and smashing their heads with metal poles".

A distressed Mia said in the video: “This is what has just happened to us, look, I’m documenting the whole thing,” she said. “I’m covered in blood. This is what the farmers have done. They shot through our window and chased us down the motorway. Oh my God, I’m literally covered in blood.”

Mia later provided an update on the “rescued” rabbits, saying she had to “leave thousands of mothers and babies behind.”

Catalonia police reportedly said the window is likely to have been struck by a "forceful object" rather than a shot from a shotgun.
