US Army to deploy ‘soldiers wearing cyborg suits on frontline’

Superhuman cyborg soldiers will fight on the front line in future world wars, a US national security expert has claimed.

Richard Clarke, a former US counter-terror, said warfare in the future will look vastly different, with nations deploying state-of-the-art robotic troops.

He made the comments at a gathering of leading tech figures at the World Congress on Information Technology, held in Yerevan, Armenia.

Predicting how soldiers wearing robotic suits could dominate the battlefield entirely, Mr Clarke explained: “The US army is experimenting with exoskeletons, which put a human inside a robot in effect.

  • Voice AI systems will be ‘everywhere’ and ‘phones will disappear in 10 years'

“They give humans super-human strength to lift and to run and to carry.

“I think that is the future for defence.

“It was 20 years ago we first put a cochlear implant in the ear of a deaf child.

“It’s improved a lot since then. Humans born without the ability to hear can now hear.

“We’re going to have eye implants, direct brain-computer interfaces.“I know that sounds like science fiction.”

He added: “We’re going to have a fusion of IT, robotics, genetics and the human being.“In a century, we’re going to be what Star Trek called the Borg.

  • Robots to end manual labour and put half of world out of work in global crisis

“A half-human, half-robot computer.”

And Mr Clarke, who was the National Coordinator for Security, Infrastructure Protection, and Counter-terrorism for the US during the September 11th attacks, said these are developments that should be welcomed.

“This is not something we should fear,” he added.“That’s where we’re going and there’s not necessarily something wrong with it.”
