The Met Office forecasts parts of the UK to be hit by “little sleet and snow” in the morning before a weekend change to “quite a bit colder weather” and an “ice risk”. A spokesman from the Met Office said Brits should brace for the first “ice risk” this Autumn as temperatures drop to single digits.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, the spokesman warned: “There could be an ice risk first thing Sunday, which is not something we have really seen yet this Autumn.”
This is also expected to bring in “a colder set-up for at least the start of next week”.
He added: “Over the weekend, we will see a change to quite a bit colder weather, particularly late on Saturday across the north of Scotland and then probably by mid to late morning on Sunday across the south of England.”
This could be accompanied by “wintry showers” and light snow.
Accuweather added: “As for the longer range, it does appear likely that much colder air will be covering the United Kingdom starting Thursday 26th and continuing through the weekend of the 27th and 28th. Periods of rain and snow likely during that time with snow levels lowering.”
In Scotland this could see temperatures reach as low as -1C at night.
The weekend forecast follows warnings of sleet and snow north of the English border.
In a social media update, the Met Office said the UK is set to face “a chilly start on Wednesday morning.”
In a separate post, they added: “Wednesday’s #4cast brings a little more sunshine compared to recent days.
“Sunshine will be mixed with showers in the north, bringing a little sleet and snow over the Scottish Highlands.”
Accuweather expects “snow showers generally above 900 meters early this morning and through Wednesday with 2-6 cms above 1,000 meters with temperatures near 0C”.
The UK is also expected to have a warmer end to this week.
London is expected to reach highs of 13C and Aberdeen could even see temperatures of 16C on Thursday and Friday, despite snow and sleet hitting Scotland today.
Despite the risk of ice over the weekend, the Met Office spokesman stressed this is not too uncommon for November.
“But again it’s nothing that is atypical for mid-November,” he said.
“At the moment, certainly earlier next week, the wintry hazard risk is pretty low.”
The Met Office spokesman also told Express.co.uk it is too early to tell whether a drop in temperatures next week could lead to a further freeze.
“I reckon the air will be cold enough for some snow, particularly for the Scottish mountains… but the jury’s still out on the detail,” he said.

While it is expected snow could fall in Scotland, the Met Office spokesman said Brits should not rule out snow hitting in the north of England.
“Let’s not completely discount the risk of some snow next week,” he said.
“It’s not completely out of the question.
“But the risk is lower the further south you come.”
Over the last few days, the Met Office has forecast the UK to be hit with “locally dense fog patches”.
However, while Brits in the south could expect some fog, winds are expected to be “too strong” for fog to form over the weekend.
