UK weather forecast: Summer officially over as torrential downpours set to pound Britain
Unsettled weather is expected to continue into next week, with cold and windy conditions. Met Office metrologist Helen Roberts explained: “Some wet and windy weather to contend with this morning, also some thundery showers in places. But having said that, it is not looking too bad across much of Scotland.”
The southern parts of Scotland will see cloud and some rain but it is expected to be generally dry.
Northern Ireland is expected to experience similar weather.
She continued: “But then we bump into this weather front which will be fairly persistent and slow-moving right the way throughout the day.
“To the south of that some showers which could be thundery at times.
“Now, there’s not much change as we head throughout the day.”
In the west of England and Wales, the thundery showers will slowly start to ease.
Scotland and Northern Ireland will by the driest but see some scattering rain.
Ms Roberts added: “Now through this evening and more especially overnight, the wind and rain will eventually pull away into the North Sea.”
Temperatures will dip a little lower than Saturday night.
Next week will “remain on the unsettled side”.
It will continue to be wet and windy whilst colder during midweek.
Britain has spent much of this week buffeted by heavy rain.
