UK weather forecast: Rain to continue into October with “unsettled” long-range forecast
UK weather forecasts are showing another mixed month for the UK come October, with wind and rain on the horizon. The latest development comes as much of the country reels from a week of heavy rain, with both flood and weather warnings. Met Office forecasters released a yellow warning for rain earlier last week, stating a “risk to life” as well as damage to buildings and possible blackouts. Further warnings are now in effect, extended over the next four days.
The Met Office long-range forecast, which runs from Thursday, October 3, predicted a “wet and windy” first weekend of the month.
They said: It will be a chilly start on Thursday, with a rural air frost.
“Outbreaks of rain and strong winds will spread into western areas by the afternoon though, with gales possible.
“This unsettled weather will then move eastwards later in the day.”
“By the weekend it is likely that unsettled, wet and possibly very windy weather will return, bringing with it a risk of gales, especially in the north and west.
“During the following week, the unsettled weather may begin to become more generally confined to the north and west, with occasional spells of drier and brighter weather, particularly in the south and east.
“Temperatures are likely to vary around average, although some cold nights are possible under any clear skies.”
Bookmakers believe October will be a “washout” month, and the wettest ever in the UK.

Bookmakers Coral have recently slashed odds on October being the wettest on record, as people line up to place their bets on the weather.
Current odds for a washout are 4-5, down from 6-4.
Coral spokesman John Hill said: “It is going to be a very wet start to next month and punters think the rain is going to continue to fall as we have been flooded with bets on this October being the wettest ever in the UK.
“With the weather set to change fast, we are already seeing money for snow to come down in October and for this winter to be the coldest on record.”
These are the current weather odds from Coral:
– 2019 to be the wettest year on record: 4-6
– October 2019 to be wettest on record: 4-5
– Snow to fall in October 2019: 2-1
