UK weather forecast: Heatwave OVER – Met Office warns of ‘HEAVY’ rain to soak UK
Following some minor relief from the cold weather this week, many across the UK will experience plummeting temperatures as a heavy band of rain arrives from the North Sea. The Met Office warned there will “big changes” on the way as they’ll be plenty of cloud and rain going into the weekend. Scotland will survive most of the wet weather on Friday morning but for the rest of the UK it will be a much cloudier and colder start to the day.
Commenting on the weather, Met Office meteorologist Alex Deakin said: “This weekend there will be big changes on the way.
“There’ll be much more cloud with a few spots of rain on Friday morning.
“Although across Scotland, particularly in the west, we’ll hang on to some sunny spells.”
However, for most of England and Wales there will much “rain and drizzle” as the barrage of wet weather arrives.
Moreover, Mr Deakin added temperatures to start the day will drop to below average for this time of year as for many areas in the south it will hover around 8C.
Mr Deakin added: “Cloud will continue to spill in from the east as we go through the day.
“With the breeze off the North Sea, it’s gonna feel quite chilly.
“We’ll see the cloud increasing over southwest England and southwest Wales with some shower rain pushing in there.”
While many areas of England and Wales are set for rain and cloud for most of Friday afternoon, Mr Deakin did add for western Scotland, temperatures could hit 20C.
The Met Office also added that the cloud cover and rain will continue to spread across the UK on Friday evening as we go into Saturday.
Mr Deakin concluded: “As we go into the weekend we’ll see more of the clouds spilling in with further outbreaks of showers.
“Some of that rain also be on the heavy side.”
