UK weather forecast: Britain to be hit by snow and weather warnings as winter savages UK

Wednesday morning will see a few fog patches and a lot of cloud in some areas. The cloud will break out into rain in one or two places mainly further north of Scotland as well as in the outer Hebrides and the northwest highlands.

The rest of Scotland will be grey bit largely dry.

Northern Ireland will also be grey with cloud thickening across the far north of England.

There will be cloudy patches across northern England, parts of Wales and some in-between clear spells.

Fog patches could take a few hours to lift across the southwest.

Met Office Meteorologist Aidan McGivern said: “For the south there will be a warm front moving in that will thicken up the cloud and bring outbreaks of rain to East Anglia and the southeast during the morning.

“Now, this all moves its way north westwards and in the meantime a weather front moves its way southwards across western Scotland.

“You notice higher temperatures there in the southeast 15C (59F) or 16C (61F) because this is bringing in higher humidity but that also peps up the rainfall.”

Heading into Wednesday night, there will be some heavy rainfall to come for the Midlands, central and southern England and east Anglia.

Meanwhile, the rain in the west of Scotland – having dumped a considerable amount of rainfall – finally moves its way through Scotland, pushing its way into western England and Wales.

By the end of the night, with all the cloud it’s going to be a generally frost and fog free start to Thursday.

But these weather fronts are finally being nudged away from the west and moving their way eastwards.

Low pressure to the north of Scotland brings some colder air in behind the weather fronts.

But it is still a grey and fairly mild start to Thursday.

Mr McGivern said: “Across much of England and Wales, there will be a few outbreaks of rain but many places will remain dry apart from east Anglia.

“In the southeast, it will remain wet through the day.

“Brighter spells and showers will follow behind these weather fronts.

“The showers will be most frequent and prolonged across northern and western Scotland where actually with the cold air we could see a few flakes of snow on the tops of the Scottish mountains.”

Northern Britain will see widespread frost on Thursday night and into Friday morning.

However, Friday will see a huge change in weather conditions.

Once again, more humid air will push in from the southwest brining some potentially very heavy rainfall.

Friday will see a yellow warning in force for Wales and the Pennines for the heavy rain.

The Met Office will be updating their website with the latest weather warnings.
