UK to endure two-week Atlantic blast bringing bitter frost and heavy rain

The UK is set to endure a two-week long Atlantic blast that will bring with it a bitter frost along with heavy rain, it has been reported.

According to weather forecaster Jim Dale, the likelihood of frost will increase the further you move North.

He told the Daily Express: "[Frost] will depend on the cloud cover. The further north you go the more likely.

"The cloud cover will start to break up over the weekend, a little bit more than it is at the moment.

"It's basically keeping the frost at bay for the most part over the next few days, but over the weekend the cloud breaks up a little bit more.

"If we do see [frost] and I think there'll be one or two around, it's dry air, so we're not going to see white frost.

"You're just going to see minus temperatures – -1C, 0C, 1C or 2C – particularly if we get sufficient cloud breaks, particularly in valley areas.

"So it's obviously the Glens, the valleys of the Pennines and Cumbria and places like that.

"Gardeners need to be aware. It is a threat to small plants, budding plants."

This comes as the UK is set to face a particularly cold May Day bank holiday, due to an arctic air that is set to batter the nation.

If these freezing temperatures do in fact make an appearance, the UK is in with the possibility of facing its coldest May in 25 years.
